An Original in the Sport

Learn Bare Knuckle Boxing from one of the men who started at the inaugural Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).

When the BKFC was founded and had it’s Tryouts for the first professional bare knuckle fighters in over a century, Reggie was there. When the BKFC held its first bare knuckle boxing competition, Reggie was there not as a spectator, but on the fight card as a fighter. He’s been there since day one and one of the few originals from that era who continued to fight and compete for the love of the sport. Reggie Barnett Jr. has been fighting bare knuckle boxing for much of his life in backyards and other unofficial venues. However, he has a boxing pedigree of over 100 amateur bouts and a professional boxing record of 6-2. He is the current United States Boxing Union Junior Featherweight Champion as well as the BKFC Batamweight Champion. As a professional bare knuckle fighter, Reggie’s record stands at 9-2.

The Art of Bare Knuckle

Why bare knuckle boxing? What makes it different than regular boxing and what can learning bare knuckle add to your game?

Bare knuckle boxing is unique in combat sports because many of the traditional blocks and strategies in classic boxing don’t work without gloves or are less effective. Combine that with the use of striking in the clinch, grabbing and trapping the hands, and controlling the head and many boxers find themselves in trouble without the gloves and rules of traditional boxing. From a self-defense perspective, this is the best way to train hand-to-hand combat. To know what works without gloves, someone has to get in the ring of combat and try it. Reggie Barnett Jr. has done that for you. Having fought more professional bare knuckle battles, he’s be in there to bring back his knowledge and experience.

FAQ

  • Is it possible to learn bare knuckle boxing online?

Yes! It is absolutely possible to learn bare knuckle boxing online especially with a program as detailed as Educated Hands University. Coach Reggie has put this program together for a reason. The same curriculum he takes his private students through is the exact same thing you'll learn online.

  • Do I need a training partner?

While having a training partner is best and you'll learn more with a partner, it is not required. In fact, the online curriculum is designed to be learned without a partner. Many of the drills and exercises do not require a partner and those that do can be simulated or modified to be done without a partner.

  • What kind of equipment do I need?

Actually, no equipment is required. Having a heavy bag with hand wraps certainly helps develop punching power and having a speed bag helps develop hand eye coordination, but none of these are required.

  • How long does it take to become an instructor?

There is no standard length of time to become an instructor. Some students have prior boxing or martial arts experience which helps. Other students just study and work and pick up the material faster. It all depends on the student, but instructorship is not given, it is earned.
